Christina Torns serves as Dean of Academics & Registrar 大象影院 Academy Boston. In this capacity, she provides academic leadership, oversees curriculum development and assessment, and manages academic records while supporting faculty and students across the school’s academic programs.
She earned bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy, History, and Religious Studies from SUNY Stony Brook University, and holds an MA in Religion & History from the University of Georgia.
Christina is the author of Reflections of Unity: The Social, Political, and Cosmological Dimensions of Mosque Architecture in Early Islam and Persia (University of Georgia Press, 2008) and contributed “Sufism: 1250–1920” to Cultural Sociology of the Middle East, Asia and Africa, Vol. IV (Sage Publishing, 2012).
In addition to her administrative work, she teaches Introduction to Philosophy and serves as a faculty advisor for Model United Nations. Her international experience includes studying abroad in Italy and Australia, teaching English in the Czech Republic, and traveling to China, Vietnam, and Thailand on behalf of CATS Global Schools to build relationships with prospective families and represent CATS Academy Boston.
Theresa Ekhelar is a former professional basketball player and emerging leader in student-athlete development and sports operations. Most recently, she served as Student-Athlete Development and Success Coordinator at Rutgers University, where she supported more than 750 student-athletes through career development, leadership programming, SAAC initiatives, and community engagement. She was also selected for the NBA’s highly competitive Future Basketball Operations Stars (FBOS) program, gaining experience in player development, analytics, international operations, and NBA and WNBA business strategy.
Earlier in her career, Ekhelar worked in operations within the Championship and Alliances department at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). A former EuroLeague professional player and 2019 Arab Champion with Beirut Club, she also competed collegiately at The Ohio State University and West Virginia University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Multidisciplinary Studies and General Business Marketing with a focus on advertising, entertainment media, and sport communications.

Mr. Roche, originally from Quincy, Massachusetts, serves as Dean of Student Discipline 大象影院 Academy Boston, where he is dedicated to fostering a supportive, respectful, and accountable school community. In addition to his leadership role on campus, he coaches the American Hockey Academy 15U team and brings a lifelong passion for athletics and mentorship to his work with students. An enthusiastic multi-sport coach, Mr. Roche values the lessons athletics teach about teamwork, discipline, resilience, and personal growth.
Mr. Roche holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Business Management from Brown University. A passionate traveler, his favorite destination is Italy. Ms. Whalen is entering her tenth year in the College Counseling field. Prior to working 大象影院 Academy Boston she spent five years working at Neighborhood House, a Boston Charter School, as an Inaugural College & Career Pathways Counselor (2018-2023), while also overseeing the National Honor Society, Yearbook Club, and the Seal of Biliteracy.?
During her five years at Neighborhood House, Ms. Whalen was the recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award and College Board Counselor of the Year. Ms. Whalen is passionate about diversity, inclusion, belonging and social justice, and has dedicated her time as an Inaugural Degrees of Freedom Counselor for the Martin Richard Institute for Social Justice Committee and as a Summer Enrichment Educator for Harlem Lacrosse.
Outside of school, Ms. Whalen enjoys digital design, chalk board calligraphy, cultivating indoor plants, trying new restaurants, spending time her dog, Eve and especially, exploring universities around the globe.

Mr. Johnson has served as the Director of Athletics, Head Coach Boys Hockey and Assistant Director of Admissions since 2022. Previous to his arrival 大象影院 Academy Boston he was the Assistant Director of Athletics at Shady Side Academy in Pennsylvania and the Mid West Prep Hockey League Commissioner.

Ms. Mellin joined CATS Academy Boston in 2025 as Student Services Manager.? Originally from Ottumwa, Iowa, she began her CATS experience as the Activity Leader and Resident Assistant for the CATS Academy Stafford House Summer program.
She previously worked as the Manager of Cross Country and Track and Field for the University of Rhode Island. A collegiate athlete, Ms. Mellin was the captain of the St. Elizabeth University cross country team and a member of the Volleyball team.

Ms. Shaefer-Flynn joined CATS Academy Boston in 2025.? She is a member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for student retention and attendance as well as assisting with publicity and marketing for student activities and events. Ms. Shaefer-Flynn graduated from Kings College where she was a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey Team as well as a Member of Lambda Pi Eta- The National Communication Association. She is a freelance graphic and UX/UI designer.

Ms. Bowen is certified as a Special Education and History teacher, as well as a Principal and Assistant Principal.? Prior to joining CATS Academy, Brenda was an attorney for 25 years as a member of the Massachusetts Bar.?She also served 9 years as an elected member of the Scituate School Committee.?
She joined CATS Academy Boston in 2016 and is passionate about history.? Ms. Melchionda is from Sagamore Bach, Massachusetts. She holds a BA in History and a Master’s in Education both from the University of New Hampshire.
Her grandfather fought in World War II in D-Day, Battle of St. Lo, and Battle of the Bulge. His story and experience inspired her interest in History. She is incredibly passionate about teaching World War II to the younger generation.
Ms. Melchionda also serves as the Head Coach for Girls Volleyball and Assistant Coach for Boys Volleyball.

Mr. Buzzard joined the teaching faculty 大象影院 Academy Boston in 2025. Prior to CATS Academy, Mr. Buzzard taught for four years in Chicago, Illinois, three years in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and one year in Salem, Massachusetts.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, he was also a writer?for The Second City and other?comedy?shows for various?theaters?in Chicago.?He has had many stories published in literary journals around the world.?
His interests include reading, writing, and creating music. His favorite thing about CATS Academy is the support found in a diverse environment.

Mr. Carter has been working in the private school industry since 2007. He has been teaching Middle School and High School Math for 15 years. In conjunction with teaching, he has been a Lead Teacher (5 years), Director of Admissions (7 years), Director of Athletics (10 years), and Varsity Girls Soccer and Softball coach (20 years).
Mr Carter coaches Varsity girls soccer 大象影院 Academy and advises the Student Government Association. He has received teacher and administrator of the year awards, coaching distinction award for work in his community, and earned a number of certifications for teaching and coaching.? He speaks both English and Spanish.

Dr. Mustapha Coker, PhD, joined CATS Academy in 2018. He has been teaching mathematics and English as a Second Language (ESL) to Middle and High School students in and around Boston for the past 25 years.
As well as teaching mathematics at the school, he also coordinates and runs both the Language and Culture Club and the Mathematics Translanguaging Lab.
He actively researches and writes on Translanguaging in Mathematics classrooms and Cultural Activity Theory (CHAT) in mathematics, cultural relativism connected to a Vygotskian Theoretical Framework. He has published writings on Linguistics and Translanguaging in Mathematics classrooms in academic journals like Academia and self-published a Translanguaging Novel titled: Dry Rain.
He received his PhD in Education Leadership on National and International Policy Analysis study and Research in Mathematics education at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. His dissertation research looked to understand further how English language learners or multilingual speakers of other languages learn mathematics in English only mathematics classrooms through Cultural Activity Theoretical Lens, CHAT.?
He speaks diverse African languages including Wolof, Mandinka, (Fulani, Jola, Sarahule, Manjago), conversational French, (always learning Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Thai, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese).
He has his Master’s degree in Education with a special focus on teaching Elementary, Middle, and High School Mathematics. He received his Undergraduate degrees in Political Science and English Literature (Computer Science and Mathematics minors) at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He also received certification in Computer Science/Programming from New Horizon Computer School in Boston.
Dr. Coker claims to have inherited his “Happy Gene” from his mother who never stopped smiling.

On joining CATS Academy School Ms. Figarsky has taught mathematics at all levels, from Algebra II to AP Calculus AB and BC. She also serves as an advisor and coordinates the Math Club and Math Help Desk.
Ms. Figarsky began teaching math in graduate school, where she was a teaching assistant and an adjunct faculty member, teaching numerous college-level courses. Before joining the CATS faculty, she worked in the field of neuroscience research at an NYU School of Medicine affiliated institute.
Ms. Figarsky has lived on three continents and is fluent in three languages: English, French, and Arabic. Having studied and lived abroad, she understands the unique needs of our international students and is committed to helping them succeed academically and socially.
She holds an MS in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut (Storrs Campus) and a BA in Mathematics from Keene State College. She is excited to work with CATS’ dynamic and diverse international student population.

Before beginning his career in education, Mr. Ruprecht worked for his family’s HVAC company. He still enjoys helping with heating system installations on weekends, staying connected to the family business.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Ruprecht is an avid athlete and coach with a deep passion for sports and teamwork. He has coached club baseball for the past seven years and enjoys participating in nearly any sport whenever the opportunity arises. He actively competes in baseball and soccer leagues, plays basketball recreationally, and previously worked as a kickboxing instructor. An enthusiastic traveler, he hopes to one day visit Japan and Vietnam.

Ms. Plone teaches multiple sections of our Algebra II course and serves as the faculty advisor to the Yearbook Club. She has served as the lead STEM instructor for Black Rocket Productions where she taught Python Programming, Video Game Animation, Youtube FX Shorts, and Virtual Reality. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting.

She is a seasoned educator who taught at Harvard University, UMass Boston, UCLA and the American Film Institute, as well as in public school classrooms in Massachusetts. In addition, she designed and produced Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for MIT. ?
She is a member of the FAB Foundation, an MIT non-profit that supports and connects digital fabrication labs (aka FAB Labs) around the world.

Prior to arriving 大象影院?Boston, he had received his degree in Computer Science with a specialty in Software Engineering and was working as a freelance developer. This gave?Devyn?a chance to discover new and exciting?ways?he could put his knowledge to use. He has been a part of teams developing?videos?games and applications that help influencers manage their social media following.

Mr. Papandile is a teacher and scientist with 10+ years of experience in biological research, teaching environmental biology and life science subjects, and training experience in immunology, cell and molecular biology, cytometry, and microscopy. He has proven success in applying new technology to biological problems resulting in advancement of new pharmaceutical candidates into clinical trials.
Originally from Albania, he emigrated to the U.S in 1997 and has been a citizen of the U.S since 2002. He started his teaching career in 2013 and has taught Biology, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, Anatomy, Microbiology in different public high schools and private colleges.
He speaks Albanian (Native), English, Italian, some Spanish, and some Russian. Mr. Papandile likes to play and coach soccer, volleyball, basketball, and tennis.? He served as Judge in the iWISE International Competition 2025.

Mr. Turner is a also a 2021-2022 SCIAC Scholar Athlete. His interests include reading about Advancements in Microbiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Biotechnology. Joining CATS Academy Boston in 2017, Ms. Gardner is the Department Chairperson for Literature and the Director of Studies for the Stafford House Summer program 大象影院 Boston.
She began her teaching career as a teaching fellow at Boston College, then worked as an academic tutor while her children were young, before joining the CATS Boston faculty. She specialized in writing the common app college essay, SAT, ACT, and essay composition.
Ms. Gardner loves to write in her free time. Her article, “Sermon Bingo” was published in the national UU World Magazine. Ms. Gardner is the recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award from Boston College, and the Pioneer Award from CATS Academy for advising the Community Service Club.

Over the course of his career, he has taught at Washington University, Boston University, Gann Academy (Waltham), and the Community School of Naples (Naples, FL).? In various past lives, Mr. Levine has ghost written donation thank you letters from Washington University's Chancellor, tutored neurodivergent students, sold men’s clothes and women’s shoes, and detasseled corn.??
When he’s not teaching, grading, working with students on discipline issues, or dorm parenting, Mr. Levine enjoys music (listening and playing guitar), disc golf, long walks, cooking and eating, museums, writing and reading poetry, essays, and fiction, watching Boston sports, learning new things, and spending time with his daughters.

Dr. Macero joined the CATS Academy Boston community in 2025 and teaches Literature 4 and English Skills.
She previously taught literature and writing at two large, urban universities for over ten years.
Dr. Macero completed her doctorate in English in May 2023 with a research focus on the representation of the working class in twentieth- and twenty-first-century American literature and film. Her research has appeared in several publications, including peer-reviewed academic journals and scholarly edited collections.
She is thrilled to return to Boston after spending a decade in the Midwest and to be working 大象影院 Academy Boston . She is especially excited about the opportunity to discuss literature from a variety of cultural perspectives and to help students hone their analytical abilities.

Prior to teaching 大象影院 Academy, Mr. O’Donovan worked for four years as a team leader and educator with the education non-profit Jumpstart.
At CATS Academy Boston, he coaches both the Varsity soccer team and the Varsity ultimate frisbee team. Mr. O’Donovan is a huge movie fan and the advisor to the Movie Club. In his free time, he loves to be outdoors, going on hikes, and snowboarding. If he could travel anywhere it would be to the moon, “it would be cool to see the earth from a different perspective.”
Mr. O’Donovan’s favorite thing about CATS Academy is the people. “The students are bright, engaged, and energetic, and the faculty all work with a shared focus of helping our students to the best of their ability. The people here make CATS Academy a special place.”

Mr. Archer has been teaching 大象影院 Academy Boston for over 10 years. He is responsible for the leadership of the CSVPA Arts Academy.
Prior to working at the school, he worked for mainstream and independent comics. Companies he has worked for include Image Comics, IDW Publishing, Archie Comics, and Topps Trading Cards, and on properties such as Dr. Who, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Star Wars. He co-launched the webcomic Dr. McNinja which was later collected and published by Dark Horse Comics.?
His teaching career began at the college level at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. His academic and career awards include the 2007 Web Cartoonists' Choice Award for Outstanding Superhero / Action Comic for Dr. McNinja.? Mr. Archer was featured in a 2014 issue of South Shore Living Magazine. With over 20 years of performance and teaching experience on stage, in the classroom, and in the studio, Mr. Dalton is a seasoned but fresh player and composer.??
He has played for nationally touring artists and received recognition for his educational practices.? He strives to always better understand music, while constantly aiming to be a better teacher.? She is an educator and artist with a passion for experiential learning, movement technique, and the theatrical arts. She has worked in professional and community theatre settings as a teaching artist, choreographer, director and performer. She holds a Master’s of the Arts in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre from Emerson College, and has been teaching in the Boston area since 2021. At CATS Academy Boston, she seeks to foster student success but also use the theatrical arts as a catalyst for individual growth and innovative thinking.

Ms. Haggerty has been teaching 大象影院 Academy Boston since 2023, where she teaches Sculpture, Intro to Drawing, and Graphic Design.
She is a practicing designer and illustrator with a background in industrial design, and has previously worked with Wayfair and Google, developing visual systems, illustration libraries, and digital assets. She brings this professional experience into the classroom, helping students build both technical skills and creative confidence.
Outside of school, she enjoys hiking with her dog Phoebe, cooking, reading, pickleball, and exploring new creative projects. Ms. Haggerty values the school’s diverse, international community and appreciates the opportunity to learn from her students while building meaningful, lasting connections.

Originally from Methuen, Massachusetts, Ms. Doyle teaches Fashion Design, is the costume designer for the theater performances, and is a Dorm Parent too. She teaches Introduction to Fashion, Advanced Fashion, Fiber Arts and Costume Design.
Before working 大象影院 Academy Boston, she was the Costume Designer for Club Med International, working at both Sandpiper Bay Resort in Port St. Lucie, Florida and Columbus Isle Resort on the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas for 2 years.
She loves to sew, design, draw, paint and do jigsaw puzzles. In her free time, she sings and dances for fun.
During college, Ms. Doyle had the opportunity to showcase her work at Boston Fashion Week in 2019 with a couture ballgown and in 2020 with an 8 piece collection inspired by her love of dance and music. Her dream is to design clothing for people with different disabilities and abilities to allow them to feel more independent, confident, and stylish with who they are.
The thing Ms. Doyle loves most about working 大象影院 Boston is “the connections I make with students both in the classroom and in the dorms. It is very rewarding to see kids blossom over the semester and make new friends and new memories.”

Ms. LaVallee has been a part of CATS Academy Boston since its founding, playing a key role in establishing the school’s English as a Second Language program. She also developed and led the first High School Preparation Program 大象影院, helping build a strong academic foundation for international students transitioning into high school study in the United States.
Prior to joining CATS, Ms. LaVallee worked in both public and private schools, teaching Russian and intensive English language programs to school students and business executives. In addition to teaching, she has worked as an interpreter and translator for numerous businesses, including providing voice-over translation of CNN News for a local cable company.
She has extensive experience working in summer language programs including the summer program at Harvard University and Middlebury College, and summer STARTALK (ACTFL) programs.
As a native professional linguist (languages studied: English, Russian, Spanish, Latin; fluent in English and Russian) and an educator, Ms. LaVallee finds herself on the constant search for personal and professional development. Staying on the edge of current foreign language teaching methods and implementing new developments and techniques used in foreign language instruction is highly important for teaching and vital for significantly improving students’ written and oral foreign language proficiencies.

Mr. Daniels has always had a fascination with travel, history, different cultures, and languages.? He attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA where he studied History. During his time there he enrolled in the school’s Romanian studies program.? As a result, this led to many overseas adventures.? First living in Romania for 6 months doing humanitarian work and then 5 years in Hangzhou, China, teaching English as a Second Language.?
Upon his return to the United States, Mr. Daniels earned his MEd degree and worked in the Global Pathways program at Northeastern University, helping students improve their English and enhance their study skills in preparation for university life.
In 2015, he joined CATS Academy Boston as an ESL Teacher. Mr. Daniels also volunteers at many community organizations, including serving as a Board Member of the Braintree Historical Society.

Mr. Herer is the Director of Basketball Operations and Head Coach of Men’s Basketball. He joined the school in 2020.
He has a strong background in marketing and has served as the President and CEO of CS Sports, Director of Digital Marketing for Expressions Stores, and Director of Merchandising for Addidas and The Hockey Company.
Mr. Herer was a collegiate athlete as Captain and member of the Men’s Basketball team at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is the founder of Boston Bobcats Basketball Organization - A large community-based organization dedicated to the athletic and social developments of youth in greater Boston.

Each summer, she enjoys mentoring High School students at programs on college campuses, including UCLA, Berkeley, Yale, Wellesley and Columbia.
A passionate lifelong learner, Ms. Hoffman takes courses at Harvard and MIT, staying very engaged with the evolving landscape of higher education, especially the impact of AI.?
She loves the diversity of CATS Boston students from around the world as well as the chance to practice Spanish and French at school and in the dorms.?
Outside of school, she’s deeply involved in the performing arts, singing in choirs and volunteering with theater companies in Boston.
